Damage is Estimated at $12,000 in Black Blaze
Borger Herald, February 26, 1933

What is left of 270,000 pounds of carbon black which caught fire last Sunday morning at the Crescent plant, east of Borger, continues to burn, completing a loss estimated at $11,000 to $12,000. The loss is divided $9,000 in carbon black and $2500 to $3000 in buildings.

The fire is believed to have started in a "48-hour house," where the black is put to determine if it will burn in that period. In this case it did burn, starting as is usual far into the pile of sacked material. The "48-hour house," a warehouse, the laboratory building and 100 feet of tramway building and 100 feet of tramway were destroyed.

As there is no fire-fighting equipment at the plant, nothing could be done except keep the flame from spreading farther than it did. The pile of carbon black probably smoldered a long time before the fire appeared.
