The McCormick Family
The McCormick family came to Hutchinson County in 1898. They built a house in 1899 and lived in the covered wagon and in a tent until the house was built. The materials for the house came from Panhandle Texas and had to be hauled by wagon across the Canadian River bottom. The quicksand near the future Borger was always a hazard when crossing the Canadian.
The McCormick house was located about two miles northeast of Stinnett and was moved there after Stinnett became the county seat. Seven children came with them and one other Lena was born in the house. It was among the first polling places in the county and the organizers of the county met there in the process of forming it. Isaac and Capitola McCormick raised their family in this small cottage.
